Something About Us
Having accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and recognizing that certain duties can be performed best in a fellowship, we covenant to walk together as members of Christ’s Calvary Church of the DRC . We believe it to be the mission of the Calvary Church to proclaim His Gospel to all mankind and to strive for the realization of the Kingdom of God.
Therefore, as members of the the Calvary Church, we will endeavour to understand one another and to sympathize with each other in temptation and affliction.
We promise: to work and pray for our church; to attend its meetings; to contribute regularly to its support and to the world outreach of our denomination; to study the Bible and to maintain a program of Christian Education; to encourage our Pastors by our prayers and to accept quietly the decisions of the majority of the members.
We, furthermore, covenant together to give a good witness for Jesus Christ in our daily occupations; and recognizing our duties of Christian citizenship we will cooperate with other churches and agencies against all forms of evil.
May the power of the Holy Spirit enable us to do all things to the Glory of God, our Father. Amen.
- The True God: We believe that there is only one living and true God, infinite in every excellence; that in the unity of the Godhead there are three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, yet one in substance and equal in every divine perfection. (Exodus 20:2-3; I Corinthians 8:6; I John 5:7)
- God the Father: God the Father – We believe in the deity of God the Father, who is coequal in substance and power with the Son and the Holy Spirit. He is the first person of the Trinity and has existed eternally. (Genesis 1:1; Psalms 83:18; Matthew 28:19, 20; John 5:19-27; Romans 8:15; James 1:17)
- Jesus Christ: We believe in the absolute deity of the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, that He is divine as no other man can be being very God of very God, existing from all eternity co-equal with the Father and the Spirit; that He has never ceased to be God for one instant and that His humiliation did not consist in laying aside His deity that as a man He was miraculously begotten of the Holy Spirit and born …
I was born in 1962 and raised in Eastern D.R.Congo in a family that did not know God. My wife’s name is Mawazo Esperance. We have 5 children and grandkids.
At the age of 10, I attended a Roman Catholic elementary school from where I was baptized.
It was in 1985 that I heard the Scripture from Roman 10:9 read “if you confess by mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved “. It was at this time that I would say I came to know the Lord personally and I was baptized by immersion.
I went to a Medical College from 1985 to 1988 and after my training, I worked with health clinics and hospital in Congo . At the hospital, I was always sharing Scriptures with the patients and give them encouragement in the Lord.
I left my home country in 1993 to work with International Rescue Committee (IRC), Doctors without Borders, and Lutheran World Federation with refugees in Kakuma hospital/ Kenya. While in Kenya, I was able to serve as a church Elder at a non – denominational church and grew my desire to serve the Lord in full-time ministry.
I returned in my home city, Uvira, DRC in December 1997 with a desire to serve the Lord and commissioned to plant church in DR Congo. In 1988, I worked with World vision international in refugee repatriation program in Uvira-Fizi, Congo while serving as a minister of the Gospel. In September 2000, I attended a leadership training at Haggai Institute/ Singapore. With God’s timing, I planted a non-denominational local church in the year 2005 at Uvira and Kaboke II, Fizi in 2007.
I left my home country in October 2011 to Iowa/USA . After staying in Iowa for one year, I decided to move to Grand Rapids in 2013 and joined the Church of the servants, Grand Rapids in February 2014. In my desire to continue serving the Lord in a holistic development, in August 2014, I was admitted at Calvin College and awarded a bachelor’s degree in Religion in May 2018.
I attended a training with One Mission Society in Indianapolis, USA from March 20-23, 2018. One Mission Society unites, inspires and equips Christians to make disciples of Jesus Christ, multiplying dynamic communities of believers around the world.
I completed the Timothy Leadership Training conducted by Calvin Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA and I became a Certified Trainer on June 2018.
I have been using my gifts of serving the Lord at the church of the servants, Grand Rapids, Michigan since 2014, and I appreciate the friendship of church members and the good leadership. I attended a Trauma healing training and I was awarded a Certificate of completion by the Trauma Healing institute and American Bible society in December 2018. Currently I am conducting Trauma healing sessions to Swahili African refugee speakers who attend the church of the servants in Grand Rapids. I have the privilege to serve at the church of the servants as the chairperson of the Leadership team of the Multicultural congregation whose English is not the first language called “Basic English Service”.
